The Arboretum in Lincoln is a beautiful little park situated in the heart of the city. It was originally designed and laid out between
1870 and 1872 by Edward Milner, a celebrated Victorian gardener. During the 1980’s and 1990’s it fell in to a
state of disrepair and urgently needed attention. Finally in 2003, a £3 million project
to restore the park to its former glory was undertaken and it
has now achieved green flag status. You can find out more about the Arboretum, the green flag award and what it signifies by clicking the link. www.lincoln.gov.uk/visitor-and-leisure/parks-and-open-spaces/arboretum
I have photographed in the park on numerous occasions,
sometimes for my own photographic work, but also on assignment for C&G
Photography. The two images featured in this article were taken one very cold
February afternoon in 2012, and it was one of the first times that I had put the
Nikon D3s through its paces. Both images have featured in photographic exhibitions
and have proved popular with local residents. One client described how he and
his partner would sit on the benches dotted around the park and watch the World
go by. Now that they were finally moving away from the area, he wanted to
purchase an image to always remind him of their time in this beautiful part of Lincoln.
