Alex and Paul

The final wedding shoot of the year took me to Welton, a beautiful small village, not far from Lincoln. The church was everything you could wish for as a wedding photographer. Beautiful, light, and plenty of room to be able to move about. The grounds were also very pretty, with plenty of places to capture beautiful images.

The couple, Alex and Paul, made for a great bride and groom. They were up for having a bit of fun, and I think that really shines through in the final images.

Julian and I have worked alongside a number of makeup artists now, and I have to say, Liv is amongst the best. Her work is truly first class, and if you are a bride searching for a makeup artist, I highly recommend you check her website. www.livfreemakeup.co.uk

This was just one of those weddings that was such great fun to be involved in, from start to finish. One of the final shots I captured on the day, is also amongst my favourites from 2014. Alex and Paul wanted a shot on the balcony of the White Hart hotel in Lincoln, with the magnificent Cathedral as a backdrop. The mist had descended, casting a truly wonderful wintery scene, and after a bit of experimenting with some off camera flash and a reflector, the shot above was captured. A perfect ending to a perfect day.

The old chicken sheds

The chicken sheds
The chicken sheds

I've often walked round these old chicken sheds on the edge of Woodhall Spa, they're just a few minutes walk from my house. I love the way nature is now reclaiming the site, small birch trees are starting to grow at a pretty rapid rate, and brambles creep inside the decaying and broken sheds. It's now such a peaceful place filled with melancholy. Walking around the site during a cold mid winter's day, I'm full of mixed emotions, as is often the case whenever I explore these derelict sites.

The Fuji X-T1 was made for this type of photographic adventure. Small, light and incredibly capable, it works flawlessly in the most difficult of lighting situations.

Pretty Panache

These images are taken from a photo shoot a while back, for bridal company 'Pretty Panache' who are based in Lincoln, U.K. The brief was to capture detail shots of the wedding dresses, veils and accessories. It was a great day's shoot, and one which proved to be very successful, both for me and my shooting partner Julian, as well as "Pretty Panache", who continue to use our images for publicity and marketing, to this day.

It was a lovely, warm summer's day, but this in itself, caused a few problems. The light was very harsh, causing dark shadows and tending to give unflattering results. We decided to move the models into the shade, and using a reflector, bounce light back towards them. The ambient light in the shade was far more even, and gave a beautiful, softer look to both models. The angled reflector 'lifted' the light and provided gorgeous catchlights to the models eyes, which is most apparent in the first image below.

Hollie and Scott

Just a few images from Hollie and Scott's wedding in November.

The image of Hollie and her father, about to walk down the aisle makes me smile. The look on both their faces says it all.

Similarly, after the ceremony has finished, and Scott and Hollie are now man and wife, the looks on both their faces says it all. A lovely candid moment

A lovely expression on Hollie's face, as Scott poses for the camera. Spontaneous images like this, are the ones I love to capture.

We had a bit of an audience in the window behind Hollie and Scott while this image was being taken. Everyone was having great fun.

Paul and Louise

The wedding of Paul and Louise at the Hallmark hotel in Hull was a fun affair, and one the weather couldn't spoil.

Despite raining all day, we managed to capture some lovely shots. By we, I mean myself, Julian, Emma and Lydia. We all worked hard on the day, making sure we didn't disturb other guests who were using the hotel that weekend. The image below was set up by all four of us, to help minimise disruption, and somehow we managed to capture the image without people wandering into shot behind the bride, Louise, in what was a busy lobby area. Lydia helped shape the dress on the stairs, while Emma and I positioned the off camera flash setup which included power and position. Not having an umbrella and softbox, we used a reflector to direct light back towards Louise, which worked a treat, and was quick to set up and take down. Julian took a few test shots, chose a suitable composition, and pressed the shutter.

We wanted the flash light to mix with the lights of the lobby area, and for the Hallmark hotel sign behind the reception desk, to be clearly visible in the final shot. We felt that this was important, considering the hotel had played such a large roll in the couple's day.

Joe and Rhianna

Thrumpton hall was the beautiful setting for Joe and Rhianna's wedding, and we were blessed with  some late summer sunshine.
